Real safety is built when communities have the resources to prevent violence, respond to crises, support stable housing, and create pathways to healing. LIVE FREE’s 2025 Impact Report documents more than $67 million moved into communities for community violence intervention, crisis response, and housing.
That national total reflects sustained organizing in states where residents, faith leaders, directly impacted leaders, and community partners pressed public officials to fund proven solutions. Michigan secured more than $15 million for community violence intervention grants across three state budgets. Indiana secured $17 million for community violence intervention, non-police crisis response, and efforts to end chronic homelessness. Illinois secured $3 million for Community Healing Resource Centers.
Budgets reveal priorities
When public dollars move toward credible messengers, violence interrupters, trauma recovery, housing, and non-police crisis response, communities gain the infrastructure to address harm before it escalates.
LIVE FREE connects organizing, policy advocacy, leadership development, and coalition building so residents can shape the decisions that affect their lives. The result is not a temporary program or isolated grant. It is a growing public commitment to safety rooted in prevention, healing, accountability, and community power.
The work continues. Join LIVE FREE in taking action to protect these investments, expand what works, and ensure communities closest to the harm have the power to define the solutions.
