Illinois organizers delivered a series of 2025 wins that joined accountability with community-based safety.

The Homicide Data Transparency Act passed unanimously, establishing public reporting requirements intended to improve homicide-clearance transparency statewide. Clean Slate legislation also passed, expanding access to record relief and reducing barriers that can follow people long after a sentence ends.

Investment in healing

Organizing secured $3 million for Community Healing Resource Centers, strengthening violence prevention, trauma recovery, and neighborhood healing infrastructure. Three of seven recommendations from the 2024 clearance-rate report were successfully executed.

LIVE FREE and partners also supported Karina’s Bill, Fines and Fees Reform, the CASPA Act, and the SALT Act. Together, these wins show what becomes possible when directly impacted leaders, advocates, and public officials build measurable safety rooted in transparency, repair, and prevention.
